The decision was confirmed by the Director of the Office of the
Public Defender (OPD), Mrs Omotola Rotimi, who said
that the state
governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, and the state Attorney General instructed
the OPD to take primary custody of the victim.
The primary three pupil was attacked with hot water by her guardian
who accused her of stealing crayfish on December 27, 2015. Mrs Mbakwe
had sent Chinwendu to get her the ingredient from their kitchen, but
when the little girl returned to report that they had none, her guardian
accused her of eating them, beat her up and then bathed her with hot
water.
The Director of the Public Defender also said that the state will
provide the child with a legal representative, as the case will be
charged to court.
