Governor Nyesom Wike suspends state commissioner for finance and state accountant-general.

Few days after the Supreme Court of Nigeria upheld the appeal of People’s Democratic Party candidate Nyesom Wike and declared him duly elected governor of River State, the Nation reports that the governor has suspended the State Commissioner for Finance, Dr Fred Kpakol and the State Accountant General, Sir Abere Dagogo

Last year, a petition was filed by candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Dakuku Peterside to challenge the declaration of Nyesom Wike as winner of the elections and the court of Appeal demanded that INEC conduct fresh governorship elections in Rivers state.

However, Wike challenged the court’s verdict and later emerged victorious as the court ruled in his favour, declaring that the election petition tribunal which originally nullified his election did not give him fair hearing.

According to the Nation, no reason has been given for the Suspension but a statement by Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media said the suspension takes immediate effect.
